Outstanding leaders:-

  • Go beyond their own ego
  • They are humble
  • Demonstrate openness

If a leader is open enough and able to sincerely ask for help and support then humility comes in and ensures that what is happening is not a power trip or just inflation of the ego.

This whole process is cyclical and builds sustainability, for in being open to help and acting from a true start point it leads back through all the other Dimensions beginning with 1DL - seeking feedback to self reflect. Leaders capable of self reflection will also consider effects of their actions/decisions on others and the system, and will be more ready to making course corrections enabling them to connect increasingly to the underlying values.

For Leaders brought up to be self reliant and self sufficient this can be a difficult step as it can be seen as a sign of weakness to ask for help. Unlike the other dimensions this one cant be practiced but when fully taken on board can be transformational at all levels. The CLC role of Trusted Adviser can be extremely beneficial in guiding the Leader through this DL and connecting all 5.
