The company was initially organised as a collection of five independent companies. Each would enter separate contracts with the oil companies to design and build floating oil-rigs. With billions of dollars at stake this often resulted in diverting company time into internal adversary and dispute rather than getting the job done.

To resolve this increasingly difficult dilemma and under pressure from global oil companies the five companies were merged into a new company to create an integrated EPCI (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation) supply operation. Each company employed between 1000 – 1200 persons.  A major strategic consultancy were employed as strategic consultants in 1997 and to ensure the successful delivery of this radical new strategy, CLC were hired as the change implementation specialists.

CLC worked with the CEO and his senior team and in close collaboration with the strategic consultancy. The first step was to set up a steering committee and to conduct an in-depth audit to assess how to best support delivering the key business deliverables and ongoing projects ($1B- $1.5B each), while building the new operating model and implementing a radical process change. The diagnostic was designed to assess the readiness of change at senior management levels, (n-1 – n-4/5).

Using a team of six consultants over an 18 month period, CLC supported the CEO, his top team and sixty leaders across the company, at an individual, group/team and whole system level, using 5DL Five Dimensions of Leadership as the leadership context for their work. This involved helping design and refine the operating model, facilitating integration work streams, designing and facilitating senior team leadership development processes and events and creating large events (100+ persons) plus a series of specific leadership processes (culture/values etc) in various divisions. Throughout the whole integrated business + human goals implementation process was monitored with course corrections on a monthly basis.

This organisation achieved a highly successful process of merging into one seamless whole, within a two year period.
